Michael Shermer wrote on his Facebook page yesterday:
Am I an atheist? p.176 of The Believing Brain: "I assume that there is no God and I live my life accordingly, which makes me an atheist."
If that's what being an atheist is for Mr. Shermer, who am I to argue with him? Though others, of course, are free to do so. (That's why there's a discussion section.)
Instead, I will rewrite his selected quotation from his book* to reflect my own position.
I consider that it is irrelevant whether there is a God or not and I live my life accordingly. That makes me an apathetic agnostic.
I like that formulation a lot better.
